Through
his monumental bronze sculptures, award winning Indian artist,
S.Nandagopal, effectively combines India’s rich historical
tradition with contemporary practices. Regarded as an icon
in Indian sculpture by critics and his contemporaries alike,
Nandagopal is at the forefront of integrating the ancient
sculptural practices of India’s past with the formal
discoveries of modern art. Based in Cholamandal, an artists’
colony in Madras, Nandagopal has repeatedly been singled out
for India’s highest award in visual arts.
